Here are 7 best Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime Video and Netflix that will take you on a virtual trip to Rajasthan
1. DHADAK – AMAZON PRIME VIDEO
The Bollywood remake of hit Marathi film Sairat, (also the debut film of Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter), was shot predominantly in Rajasthan. As you must be aware, the plot is of a lower caste boy who falls in with an upper caste girl. However, apart from the dramatic story, you get to enjoy the beautiful palaces and streets of Rajasthan in this one.
2. YEH JAWAANI HAI DEEWANI – AMAZON PRIME VIDEO
One of the best travel movies from Bollywood, this one would feature on most lists. Starts off in Delhi and Mumbai and then goes around the country as well as some parts of the world. However, one of the most beautiful set ups comes from Kalki’s wedding that takes place in a heavenly Udaipur mansion. The Kabira song as well as a few iconic scenes of the movie are also shot at this location.
3. BADRINATH KI DULHANIYA – AMAZON PRIME VIDEO
Another love story on this list. Badrinath ki Dulhaniya is also on a similar pattern as Dhadak, but with a more stellar star cast. The movie focuses on the love story between Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan and how external factors affect their love and relationship. It is an entertainer and is infused with the right amount of drama.
4. PARMANU – NETFLIX
Moving away from the havelis and ponds of Rajasthan, this one showcases the state’s vast deserts. Parmanu is the real story of how a team of scientists and Indian army officers worked day and night to make India the sixth country in the world to have nuclear weapons. Their biggest challenge was to save themselves from the prying eyes of satellites that were mapping their every move.
5. JODHAA AKBAR – NEFLIX
Among all the historical Bollywood movies Ashutosh Gowarikar has made, this one’s one of the best. Aishwarya Rai and Hrithik Roshan are among the most good-looking actors in the industry and they bring a certain charm as they play the great Mughal emperor Akbar and his Hindu wife Jodha. While large parts of this film are shot on sets, the intricate details of some havelis could not be replicated, which is why the team made the actual journey to Rajasthan and shot a few bits there. Regardless, it will give you all the feels of traveling through central India.
6. RANG DE BASANTI – AMAZON PRIME VIDEO/NETFLIX
After being majorly shot in Delhi University and other parts of Delhi, a few scenes in the movie are also shot in a fort in Rajasthan. It’s one of the best movies that Bollywood has ever produced and you can watch this movie multiple times. And there’s no better time than now, as we’re all stuck at home.
7. BHOOL BHULAIYA – NETFLIX
What’s better to get the feels of Rajasthan than a movie that is based in a haveli? Bhool Bhulaiya is the story of a girl, who gets possessed by the spirit of a dancer who was killed years ago in the same haveli. Apart from almost entirely being shot in and around the haveli, Akshay Kumar also takes a trip to the smaller villages where you can get glimpses of rural Rajasthan.
